Hester graduated in 1987 from the University of Pretoria and began treating patients with pelvic floor problems in 2000. Her interest grew as the field developed to include all types of pelvic related dysfunctions, such as sexual dysfunction and pelvic pain, and also urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, anorectal dysfunction, as well as pre- and postoperative colorectal and gynaecological patients. She also sees pre- and postnatal patients with diastasis recti abdominis, and pelvic floor-, lower back- and symphysis pubis dysfunction. She treats both female and male patients.

Hester is a member of the MSH Team and attends the monthly MSH team meetings in Bryanston. She believes that this collaboration in a multi-disciplinary unit ultimately delivers the best quality care to the patient.

She has been involved with the Women’s Health Physiotherapy Group (WHPG) of South Africa since 1995 and currently serves as the course coordinator for WHPG for postgraduate courses in the field of pelvic floor dysfunction. She was part of the original committee who developed the postgraduate course in pelvic floor dysfunction / women’s health in South Africa, and still lectures on these modules on a regular basis. She is the physiotherapy representative on the SAUGA board and has presented at several conferences and courses on the topic of physiotherapy treatment for pelvic floor dysfunction and/or incontinence.

Hester has written articles for a number of magazines to help educate the public on the role of physiotherapy in the management of pelvic floor problems.
